Sheep Storytime, Friday, March 14 @ 10:30

 Intro

I go around the group and say everyone's name in Sheep. My name is Travis, so my Sheep name would be Tra-a-a-a-vis. Emma would be Emma-a-a-a-a-a. Ethan would be Etha-a-a-a-a-an.

Two Ways:

1: Stencil sheep. I cut some big oval sheep bodies out of mylar and showed the children how to tape them to a piece of blue construction paper. If I had a die-cut machine (if!) I would have cut out some mylar 0′s and just elongated them a bit to speed things up.

I gave the children white poster paint in the ubiquitous baby jar lids and some cotton balls and they stenciled away. I showed them how to reposition the stencil to make more bodies and how to draw on eyeballs and ears.

The kids were a bit underwhelmed by their sheep pictures — next year I might experiment with puffy paint and googly eyes.

2. Next year Still don’t have that die cut and my numbers are larger. I showed the kids how to make a kind of circle shape on their paper using corks dipped in white paint. “Up and down” and twirl the paint around so it looks like fur. Then we drew on a “half-circle” or “semicircle” for the face with black marker and added black legs. I think the kids liked this better — less restrictive. I saw flocks of white blobs and blobs with very peculiar faces.

Songs?

Baa Baa Black Sheep -- Oh come on, they should hear it at least ONCE!
Little Boy Blue
Little Bo Peet
Mary Had a Little Lamb
***
Three white sheep, three white sheep
See how white they are, See how white they are
They always remember to baaa every day
They never say mooo and they never say neigh
They never go quack while they nibble their hay
They're 3 white sheep
